Development

Development covers everything from a baby's first smile to a teenager gaining independence - the physical, mental, and social milestones kids move through on the way to adulthood.

Every child develops on their own timeline. Milestone charts are useful guideposts, not strict deadlines, and a wide range of timing still falls within what's considered typical.

Puberty is one of the biggest developmental stretches, bringing physical changes alongside shifts in mood, thinking, and social relationships - often at different speeds for different kids.

If you notice your child losing skills they previously had, or falling well outside the usual range for several milestones at once, that's worth a conversation with their doctor.
